Cookie and tracking explanation

A plain-language inventory of browser storage and measurements.

Review notice. Project policy copy for transparency; it requires qualified legal review and is not legal advice. Version 2026-09-02.

Essential browser storage

Theme and palette choices, anonymous saves, comparison state, and pseudonymous first-party session identifiers use browser storage. Supabase may use storage needed to maintain an authenticated session. These are functional, not advertising cookies.

No cross-site ad tracking

OpenAlternative does not install third-party advertising pixels or create cross-site behavioral profiles. Sponsored frequency caps use a keyed session pseudonym with bounded retention.

External requests

The Google favicon service receives product-icon requests. Cloudflare Turnstile receives a challenge request only where anti-abuse protection is configured and shown. Following an outbound link transfers you to the destination under its policies.

Decision assistant requests

AI provider traffic is not advertising tracking and is made only after you explicitly submit an interpretation, recommendation, or generated-summary action. The API uses a keyed pseudonymous safety identifier and never puts your raw request or structured intent into analytics. Provider-disabled use makes no AI request.
